Custom MOCAP for fast turn around project

We came up with a fantastic strap line for our event in Austin, Texas: "Okay, Austin here...Houston, we have a solution." Our talented graphic designer unearthed a perfect stock illustration to use, but the challenge was to bring it to life.

Leveraging cel shaders and Cinema 4D's sketch'n'toon feature, we found it surprisingly straightforward to achieve the desired look with an off-the-shelf 3D astronaut model. However, time was of the essence, and anyone who's worked on character animation knows it can be quite time-consuming.

Unfortunately, the stock motion capture options, like Mixamo, didn't quite offer the actions we needed. That's when we turned to Move.ai, and here's where it gets fun – I stepped in and acted out the required actions myself, seamlessly applying them to the Cinema 4D motion system to blend everything together.

It was a tight schedule, but we were determined to make our vision come to life!

Swag

No event is complete without its' merchandise, prizes, and freebies.
As an extra hook, for this event, we had an interactive prize wheel app for delegates to register to win a prize, with instant prizes. No long wait for business card bingo.

What's next?

I would liked to have also tried Wonder Dynamics, which can record the MOCAP from footage, remove the subject and comp in 3D CG characters.
